The AM band may get a little noisier Friday morning as stations begin 24 hour HD radio transmission. If you find an AM station using IBOC overnight, post it here so we can all know about it.

Where things will really be messy is from 650-900, and 990-1220 with many of the 50 kw I and I-A's running it. I won't notice much from my locals either because the lower-powered ones have pitiful night signals here in analog and because the stronger ones will simply replace raucous analog overmodulated splatter with IBOC hiss. Sometime next week perhaps I'll have time to pay more attention to what's going on....

So that's why all the noise on the IRCA list about it.

Here in Milwaukee these are running IBOC right now:

920 WOKY
1130 WISN
1290 WMCS

WTMJ 620 does not have it on.

Bye bye KMOX !

I gave a listen to AM early this morning for the first time since IOBC came on. It was about 1am local time.... . .boy was I disappointed... . .*sniff* . .I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. I COULD NOT BELIEVE all the hiss. I listened for a few min's and went to bed.

I hope..HOPE that maybe my neighbor had something on like a light w/dimmer switch. I'm glad I have BUNCHES of cassette tapes of AM radio the way it used to sound so I can "re-live the good-ol days".

Actually, i listened last night to some AM and it seemed that the noise was not as bad as the other night. I have also noticed that some frequencies are better than others.. one of them being 1160... still sounds basically the same as before IBOC took over on AM. Also some of the upper freq's are better than some of the lower ones. The worst noise is with those powerhouse stations.

Noted WJR 760; WFDF 910; WWJ 950, WXYT 1270 and WSPD 1370 all running IBOC at night. WJR is a real kick in the crotch, since it puts an annoying whistle onto CHWO-740 (the last worthwhile radio station in North America)
Interesting to note that WTVN 610 is getting seriously kicked, even though there is no strong analog signal on 590, 600, 620 or 630 at night here!

I have noticed the last several nights WJR (which had been running IBOC at night) has been heard without IBOC at night and with IBOC during all daytime hours I've checked, so they appear to have stopped using IBOC at night, at least temporarily.
This come as a relief to me, since it restores night reception of CHWO-740.
My own suspicion is that WJR has done this to protect co-owned WABC 770, which has to serve the #1 market on soil that doesn't conduct worth schist.
WRDT 560, WFDF 910, WWJ 950, and WXYT-1270 continue to operate IBOC at night (WXYT is a true waste of spectrum, since they are now a simulcast of WXYT-FM 97.1).
One thing I notice - the baseband analog signal of WJR is still clear at night. Could I assume that WABC, KOB, WSB and KFQD are all non-IBOC at night, too?

Does this include the Radio Disney stations? I guess I'll know, when I tune in my WMYM 990 on the way home from work. Was driving the FL Turnpike this week, and Orlando's WDYZ 990 messes up 970 to 1010 in the day.

Hoping for the day of Internet-streams in the car....woo hoo!

Yes, I know at least some of the Disney stations have it. 1260 in Boston has it.

The thread is still there. I don't know if anyone ever posted the actual email.

Yes, WFDF-910 in Farmington Hills does have it.
Being a highly directional array, it messes up reception on other channels even where WFDF itself is inaudible (a perfect null on 910 is not a good null on 890 or 930).
