View Full Version : Can't attach files?

This may be a confused browser on my end but... I seem to have lost the ability to attach files.

The "Attach Files" frame still shows up under "Additional Options", with a list of acceptable attachment types, but there's nowhere to click to open up the window for selecting files.

In the "Posting Rules" at the bottom, it still says "You may post attachments".

Has this disappeared for anyone else?

There's a "Manage Attachments" button in the "Attach Files" section as I reply to this, so it sounds like something on your end. What browser do you use?

Mozilla 1.0.1 on Linux. Just restarted the browser & it still doesn't work.

Just did what I should have done in the first place, looked at the source to the page. The Javascript code for creating the "Manage Attachments" button *is* there. It just doesn't seem to be running for some reason. Javascript itself seems to be working, as I see the "Smilies" over to the right of this text area (and those are created with Javascript) -- indeed, it appears this text window for typing messages also requires working Javascript. Wish I knew what changed.

Guess it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade my browser...

Doug,

Let me know if you continue to have problems. Version 3.5.0 is finally a "stable" release, so I upgraded the board to that yesterday from version 3.0.8.

They changed quite a few things in this version and I haven't got a chance to check everything out yet

Now of course I'm one of those poor slobs who either isn't technically-adept enough and/or just hasn't got the patience for Linux, but it worked fine for me yesterday and it's still there today. ( Win2K )

Well, this is about as frustrating... I tried Lynx (the text-mode browser) and the Manage Attachments button is there. However, it insists there are no files on my computer and no websites on the Internet.....
(I type in the name of a file I ***KNOW*** exists and it says "file does not exist"; I tell it to get the file from http://www.w9wi.com/tvdb/states/pe.htm (go to that site & you'll see the page) and it insists there is no such page.

Did a bit of digging & found two other references to what appears to be the sam e issue on other vBulletin boards:

Any chance we can downgrade(?) to the previous version again? I just got the hang of using those attachments the other day and I'm looking forward to them and now I can't get them. Ain't that the way! :duh:

It seems to work now, and with a slightly different "Manage Attachments" box than before. (thanks!)

(Interesting that the maximum permissible attachment size varies with the type of attachment. To be honest I would suspect some sites would run afoul of that 19.5KB maximum for text files, though I doubt anything that gets posted here would be that big)
