Hello....

I have been having problems with my Media Player whenever I choose to click an mp3 audio link lately.

I'll hear the clip, or most of it, but my "visual effects" & time-elapsed freeze up. Then I get that "white" program-app icon in the upper left when I try to X-out the thing, then I have to "End Now" (if ya know what I mean). :banghead:

I use Bell South (AT&T) for my provider. Has there been yet another problem here?

My internet radio streams seem fine.

Any eye-deers?

I don't think it has anything to do with this site or AT&T.

What it is I couldn't tell you... does Microsoft have an update for Media Player?

Maybe try a different player? Audacity is a free download, hopefully someone else can chime in with the URL?

Media Player Classic, available here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm

Plays all Realaudio/Realmedia files plus mp3s and also plays video. The best parts about it are 1. it's not Realplayer and 2. it's not Windows Media Player.

Give it a try. I bet you'll like it as much as I do.

A couple of guesses here.

1) If the version of WMP you're using is current ( i. e. 2007 or later ) and/or if you're using Windows Vista, you may have run afoul of the anti-piracy programming which limit these activities.

2) WMP isn't the most stable program in the world to begin with, and it isn't uncommon for this to occur when playing audio files which have no video. I don't know why, but I've encountered it. Re-booting completely helps, but is a pain.

As Doug and Mike have pointed out, best to use another program, preferably an audio-only program. Then you'll need to set it up as the default for mp3's on your system.

Although I use Total Recorder for my recording, and use Power Audio Editor mostly for playback and Cool Edit 2000 for serious file manipulation, I've set up to use WinAmp as my default mp3 and wav player to avoid the problems I described.

Tnx guys....but I was sure that this has only started a few weeks ago, and I have not changed a thing in players.

I will try to check out these other players over the weekend.

Chris,

It sounds to me like one or more of your audio drivers has became defective and would need a CLEAN RE-INSTALL to fix it. Using the least amount of resources from the computer, I am like the others that have mentioned an 'audio only' application. I use Total Recorder for basic recording and playback.:)
