YLE has announced that they shut down AM transmitter of YLE Radio Peili on 558 khz tonight. That transmitter was heard even in Southern Estonia in daytime conditions. I guess that this has something to do with the budget cuts they have been doing recently after dramatic loss of license fee income.

Just a FYI, if anybody of you can DX European AM stations. We'll have one station less to DX. Estonian Radio(now Estonian Public Broadcasting) axed their AM transmissions in 1998, but now there is a Russian language Christian station broadcasting at 1035 khz over here.

EDIT: 558 khz is now dead air, as announced

I've never heard anything on 558khz (I have a local 5kw on 560khz) and on 1035 I've heard Portugal and, I think, Morocco. I can't remember ever seeing YLE reported here on 558khz.

Even from our annual DXpeditions on Long Beach Island, NJ, we have only ever heard the Spanish stations and Switzerland on 558. Further, there have been no reports of the now-silent station in North America that I can find over the past 4 years unless perhaps it was in one of the New Brunswick or Newfoundland DXpeditions.
