Tv Azteca in Monterrey is from what it seems relayed from an over-the-air reception of the main network, as per the RF interference that can be seen over it, such as the obvious tropo CCI that can be seen on the retrx and disappears once they go local, only to reappear when they reswitch to the main!
Where would they be receiving it from (obviously not DF) and on what channel? Just in case that tropo CCI gets strong enough to ID (dreaming again)

Somehow I missed this question when it was posted in January. I found it tonight while looking for something else.

Televisa and TV Azteca are big-time users of satellites for delivery of their network programming. I could be wrong, but I think it is doubtful that the Monterrey stations would relay their programming from OTA TV signals. First of all, Monterrey is one of Mexico's largest TV markets. On top of that, channel 7 in Monterrey feeds regional news and programming weekday mornings to several Azteca-7 stations in northeast Mexico, which I would think is delivered to stations via satellite.

I think the days of TV stations receiving network programming from OTA TV stations are about over in Mexico. It is probably easier and less expensive to maintain satellite equipment than it is elaborate OTA reception systems.

Another problem is that Fernando Garcia told me several years ago that *local* supered text IDs are inserted at the transmitter site. I doubt that TV Azteca wants viewers in Monterrey to see IDs from other markets, in addition to the Monterrey IDs.

I don't know what the problem was with the signals you have seen from XHWX-4.

BTW, XHWX-4 has transmitters in both Monterrey and Saltillo. Both run text IDs which list their respective locations. I have IDed both.

Thanks for the reply. I am still puzzled by this though. Upon reviewing the recording it became apparent this was ES not tropo as it wasn`t seen again since, and there was strong ES in the area at the time I was able to confim later. So they somehow picked up strong ES signals and retransmitted them. I must mention the average viewer probably would have barely noticed.
Mexican tv sure still holds a lot of mysteries, at least for me. Thanks for being willing to share your expertise.

Yes, TV stations in Mexico have little in common with TV stations in the United States. I'm sometimes surprised at what I see from Mexico. I'm looking forward to exploring channels 3 and 6 more thoroughly when my locals go off in February.

Did you receive XHWX-4 via Es in Quebec? That is a long-haul, isn't it? Did you also receive XEFB-2?

Thank you for your interest in my receptions and for sharing some of your expertise.
I did not post all the reception details originally for the sake of brevity, but no I have never in fact IDed any tv from Mexico up here, this was when I had the opportunity of seeing them over free-to-air satellite, and I found interesting what you mentioned about the supered ID because indeed I do not recall any ID other than the 7 logo. It`s very strange I clearly remmber them cutting from local news to Azteca 7 network programming and back again, the ES CCI only being seen over network programming...I wish I would`ve been able to see them again this summer to see if it happened again...!
I do hope indeed the analog tv turnoff turns out to bring you more dxing opportunities...will be looking forward to hear about it!

After our contacts by e-mail, I realize that my knowledge of C-band satellite "backhaul" feeds is very limited. It sounds interesting.
