Folks,

I just got home from being out for about 12 hours today, shopping with the wife & DXing.

Our plan was to go to Flamingo FL, which we did, arriving about 3 pm....no E-skip, not even a trace...but....I could see havoc with Miami's ch 2 & 4....it was CCI that looked like Es, but ch 3 did not have it....

Ch 4's CCI featured a chess board on TV (read: this is Canal Educativo in Havana, which has had that chess show for the longest time). I said to my wife something like "Havana sure is strong! I'm tempted to go to the Keys....ya know what? Let's go."

So we went to my spot at Mile Marker 35. Havana TV stations (& much FM) very strong....I never saw Havana's ch 2 Tele Rebelde ever this strong. The above ch 4 strong, as was 6, and the weak UHFs there 15 (Canal Ed. 2) & 27 (Canal Habana) made an appearance.

Let's see what I remember in addition----

ch 5 Cubavision (NOT the normal Tele Rebelde from Santa Clara)
ch 8 Cubavision I think
ch 12 Canal Ed (I think this one serves parts of Havana that 4 cannot)
ch 22 Canal Ed 2

99.9 R Cadena Habana even on car radio fairly well....

Not much else that I have not shared already.....BTW although Havana was strong, the normal Matanzas TV stations were not.

If I only knew about this, I would not have gone to Flamingo in the first place.

Very good reception!!

You'll be looking forward to your local stations switching over
next year.Is anything left on lowband doing DTV in your area then?

What's happened to TV Marti,is it still around? Weren't they on ch 13 & the
Cubans jamming them.

Regards,

Hugh

Very good reception!!

>>>>I'd have pictures, but the programming was such that any IDs were not right on schedule like they normally would be....I did grab one of Canal Habana (which I HAVE had better reception b4), and I'll try to post that, and a sample of ch 2 Rebelde.

You'll be looking forward to your local stations switching over

>>>>>Nope!! Hooray!! I will be able to monitor my nice FM rx for any action on 87.7 or 87.8, which would be the audio for Cubavision in Havana. Key West has a DTV on ch 3, but it won't be a factor.

>>>TV Marti, last I know, has been using channel 20 UHF on a limited schedule, using airplanes to transmit. Look in my pix from last year, and you will see an awful "rainbow-like" TV Marti reception. Because they use airplanes, the reception is shortwave-like....You can keep the antenna right where it is, and it would not matter.

>>>>I'll add: if I could draw a map for you of what my driving looked like yesterday, you would definitely call me crazy. I just totalled my mileage from yesterday: around 365 miles....if only Flamingo, woulda been 180.

Your wife goes on area DXcursions with you? Mine thinks I'm crazy for getting into DXing (again :D ). She can't grasp the idea of hunting down distant TV/radio stations. She concludes it must be a "man thing" :rotfl:

You bet....she uses it as a way to talk to her gal-pal on the cell while I go away at the hobby.

Reception on the cell must be good, as we go outdoors.....
