From 4:45am Nov 6 on 101.7 sounds like (101) "7 The Beaver"
I can't find any reference to a station on 101.7 with "Beaver" in the slogan. Any ideas?

While the word "Beaver" appears to be there ( and I'm not certain that's what it is ), I'm a lot less certain that the context is a slogan. I'd be inclined to let this one remain an unID.

This one on 97.3, coming out of a UB40 song. Ideas?
Also heard on 97.3 last night: KBSG Tacoma (airplane scatter?), KSON San Diego, CKUA-FM3 AB.

Dave I hear "93 Bob FM" right in the middle, fairly clear. It sounds like 3 stations in there.
Can't find anything for "Bob FM" on 97.3.
Russ-PA
11-08-2005, 08:17 PM
While I'd say that it *could be* "Bob 97.3 FM" in there, I think it could as easily be something else.
Some of these more recent MS clips have been kind of rough copy, and this one's no exception...
And I also agree there's no Bob on frequency, though his siblings, Alice and Joe are.

Russ, and Randy.....
It's just amazing what comes up on different systems. I have three computers on which I've listened to this clip, and they all provide different info. On one, I can't even hear the UB-40 reference!
I'm inclined to believe this actually is (relog) KLLC "Alice" San Francisco, as they did give a PT time (it was in the 7-O'Clock hour when they were in).
There's not much on 97.3 in this time zone: A couple of country stations in California, and classic rock in BC, oldies in Seattle. Plus KLLC.

This burn on 107.5 came in this morning 11/10 while I had the antenna southeast. I don't suspect the signal is from that direction though. I hear what sounds like "WRI" or WR life" you are someplace very special on your radio" I don't see anything right off that matches.
Russ-PA
11-10-2005, 05:18 PM
Sounds to me like a snippet which says "You're listening to the Music of Your Life on..."
Only one I show on 107.5 would be KOMT Mountain Home AR, although I wouldn't count it.

This came up like Tr or Au, not Ms, and is distorted but long. This isn't even the whole clip. Lasted about 3 minutes. I'm wondering if this isn't CKBZ Kamloops, about 500 miles N of me. If it's Ms, I'd guess KYOD-WY. Can anybody pull anything out of the woman's voice before the hip-hop?
Dave
Russ-PA

Not a thing. And that's rap, not hip-hop in my book.

I bet I know who this is, and it's a relog (no surprise there; I'm really needle-in-a-haystacking it now).
XHCBR Caborca SN "Max 101". I hear the "101" in there.... and they would play rap, as well as mixing in some "alt" as in the promo.

Dave,
Someone was broadcasting one of XM's rap/hip hop channel's - XM Hip Hop Nation. And yes, thats a rap song. I actually hear the word "nigger" in the rap lyrics, which clues me in that it wasn't a regular fm station. I also noticed that the audio was cutting in and out, leading me to believe who ever was 'pirating' the XM channel, was having problems with their transmitter.
BTW, we have XM Radio at work and one of the young guys there tunes around the rap channels (although the 'language' channels are suppose to be a 'no-no' at work), so i've definitely became familiar with the nuances of rap and hip hop, whether I like the stuff or not.

11-11-2005, 11:28 PM
Thanks Jim. Just more garbage on my dial. I am just killed by Part 15 transmitters.......
Well, hey, I swore I heard Max 101 in there, but at least it only would have been a relog :jump:
KW4RZ
11-12-2005, 06:15 AM
I hear the female voice say what sounds like "I-101"
I get a similar type of audio cutting in and out on various frequencies on my dial during the daytime. Intermod coming from local FM transmitters.
I heard 101.9 WBGE Bainbridge, GA air an uncut version of a rock song yesterday that had "$#!% YOU" in it.

I probably should've clarified my comment regarding the XM channel. It 'sounded' like an XM rap channel. Then, I remembered reading once while working on information for the Mexico FM Directory, that some of the Mexico fm's 'steal' XM feeds and rebroadcast them overnight. So it would make sense that XHCBR Caborca SN "Max 101" could possibly do that. And I clarify that also, by saying 'possibly', since I don't know if they do or not. And I do hear the 101 in the clip also.

Can anyone make out anything out of this weak fluttery ID jingle? It sounds like "KBM" to me. Recorded on 93.9 at 8:42pm today.
The only thing close is WKBI St. Marys, PA 2kw 875 miles.
Perhaps it's not an ID at all.

Randy, couldn't pull anything out of your latest. Jim, I'll listen when I get home - no sound card on this PC!
Last night I had some frustration on 102.5. Pointed at Salinas, CA looking for KDON, an old "local" of mine when I lived in Santa Cruz. Had a lot of Hot AC, and a nice "Central Coast" mention. Unfortunately, the Central Coast mention could have just as easily been KSNI Santa Maria.
I -did- have KNIX Phoenix (relog x1000) and assumed KZSD Martin SD with Morning Edition. Plus just a ton of UNIDs - lots of classic rock most of which I again assume to be KIOT-NM.
Today I'm monitoring 93.5 - one of my frequencies with a 100KW CP on it 84 miles N of me.

Meteors were not as good Nov 18 as Nov 17 but there were still many good burns. My luck was down though as none had solid ID material.
But perhaps with a little input from you fellas something can be made of these two which are the best out of 6 hours of recording.
99.1 08:58 this one has me boggled with a local ad for "The Mail Place 1561 Garden Street just west of Dixie Crossroads" which is in Titusville, FL about 330 miles east-southeast and my antenna was north. There is no 99.1 in the Titusville area. 100kw WQIK Jacksonville is about 80 miles north and there is 10kw WWOJ in Avon Park about 50 miles south. I wouldn't think either of these stations would run an ad for Titusville but maybe I'm wrong.
99.1 09:05 a Spanish station sounds like a slogan "Esta es La..... and sounds like San Felipe. There's a San Felipe near Houston but KODA is not Spanish format. Maybe Jim has an idea?

Randy,
Is it possible your 'Mail Place' clip could have been WIKD-LP Daytona Beach? (100 watts 98', licensed to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical). It very much sounds like a sponsorship spot, which can sound like regular commercials, as long as the three points of a 'non-profit' are not violated in the sponsorship message. WIKD-LP is only 37.7 miles north, the closest of any of the fm's on 99.1
The SS clip says, "esta es la <??> noreste corázon...". Loosely translated, the announcer is saying, "This is the <??> northeastern heart of...". The question marks are where it drops a little - i'm pretty sure there is another word at that point, but I can't make out what it is. Sorry I can't be more help.
KW4RZ
11-19-2005, 02:57 PM
Thanks Jim. I looked at the low power station in Daytona Beach too, but geez.. it was such a strong signal for several seconds, and would be in the back null of the antenna. It doesn't make sense. I didn't even consider it. But I suppose it's possible. If I had a better ID I'd log it. Thanks for your research :)

Here's a couple nice meteor signals from the morning of Dec 3. Google couldn't provide anything for me but maybe someone recognizes the ads and or game in the audios.
The first at 0832 sounds like "Royal Ballroom" and DC? and a casino name.
The second at 0933 mentions what sounds like "The Golden Mask" a restaurant?

Here's a nice burn from 101.7 at 9:17am Dec 04 beaming west. It sounds like an ID but maybe not? Is he just saying "Kinda Country"?
Russ-PA
12-05-2005, 01:40 PM
Program name is "Sunday's Kinda Country" as I hear it. It's a syndicated deal. I don't see any station listing on thier site. No clues searching Country format on 101.7 - but therre are a batch of those.

Here's a bunch of signals from the Geminids that may be indentifiable with the expertise of others.
101.7 Dec 12 at 03:47 Announcer is saying something, then has what sounds like a call in saying the slogan "something 101" . Then announcer again says something. Very odd sounding.
104.5 Dec 13 02:04 Sounds like "Lyle reporting for 104.5 KQK_ and "My 104.5" but none of this matches up.
93.9 Dec 13 21:54 ad that sounds like Forest Jewelers in Mount Vernon. I don't think I have the jewelers name right.
101.7 Dec 14 06:14 sounds like "survive the North .... Museum then country music starts
102.9 Dec 13 06:20 Sounds to me like "CHAY at 102.9" or "Shame is 102.9" hahaha, Michael says it sounds like "Jamz" Nothing matches up.
KW4RZ
12-14-2005, 05:00 PM
101.7 Dec 14 06:23 I hear - "tickets Dec 22 at" and what sounds like Old Town Corner" but I don't think that's it.
101.7 Dec 14 06:28 sounds like "WBFS" but that doesnt match up.
101.7 Dec 14 06:40 sound like maybe a location then "my favorite radio station"
101.7 Dec 14 06:45 sounds like "Homeward bash hits of the 80's , 90's and Today", says time 7:45 so is in Eastern Time.
101.7 Dec 07:42 one of the longest burns so far that had at least one of the stations over the whole length (23 seconds) Weather report for what sounds like Collinwood, Arlington Heights?, Mixing with what sounds like urban AC which only listed is WMGL in South Carolina.

104.5 Dec 13 02:04 Sounds like "Lyle reporting for 104.5 KQK_ and "My 104.5" but none of this matches up.
*** What you hear as "Lyle" sounded to me like it could also be "Ohio"; possibly WKQT in Wooster ?
93.9 Dec 13 21:54 ad that sounds like Forest Jewelers in Mount Vernon. I don't think I have the jewelers name right.
*** Too many possible Mount Vernons. But I hear it as "Burris" or "Burrus" rather than "Forest". Alas that's no help either.
101.7 Dec 14 06:14 sounds like "survive the North .... Museum then country music starts
*** Seems like "Portage Museum" to me, leaning toward IN. MN, WI or MB ?
102.9 Dec 13 06:20 Sounds to me like "CHAY at 102.9" or "Shame is 102.9" hahaha, Michael says it sounds like "Jamz" Nothing matches up.
*** Didn't hear the Jamz part but the "Shay" could also be pronounced Canadian calls, but I don't have anything handy right now to check possibilities.
Now on to your next group...

101.7 Dec 14 06:23 I hear - "tickets Dec 22 at" and what sounds like Old Town Corner" but I don't think that's it.
*** I think it is Old Town Corner, but can't do anything with it.
101.7 Dec 14 06:28 sounds like "WBFS" but that doesnt match up.
*** Doesn't really sound like a call to me
101.7 Dec 14 06:40 sound like maybe a location then "my favorite radio station"
*** sounds more like a business name than a location
101.7 Dec 14 06:45 sounds like "Homeward bash hits of the 80's , 90's and Today", says time 7:45 so is in Eastern Time.
*** Sounds the same to me though it makes little sense
101.7 Dec 07:42 one of the longest burns so far that had at least one of the stations over the whole length (23 seconds) Weather report for what sounds like Collinwood, Arlington Heights?, Mixing with what sounds like urban AC which only listed is WMGL in South Carolina.
*** All I got was the Arlington Heights ( too many of those as well ) and the forecaster's name which sounded like "Shelly Mullin".
Sorry-

Bingo ! There's a "Burrus Jewelers" in Mt. Vernon, MO, which is in the SW corner of the state. FM Atlas maps would suggest KHST in Lamar. Looks like Burrus has multiple locations in MO

Excellent research Russ! Thanks! That makes ID #3 since Dec 11 for KHST Lamar, MO. It's proving to be a regular on 101.7, catching up to KBKB in Iowa and CKNX Ontario. I agree with you on the 104.5 as being WQKT Wooster, OH. Sure is goofed up sounding though. The wonders of FM and Ms.
OOps. double goof, it was on 93.9, so that was KJMK Webb City/Joplin. I've had 'em a couple times via Ms.

The last two days (13th-14th), i've worked 99.3 and 95.9, despite them being adjacent to two locals. With the antenna to the east-northeast, there was very little qrm from the locals.
Here's a couple from Wednesday morning (14th) that I can't id.
The first one - 95.9 The Eagle 12-14-05 0424.mp3 - id's as being on 95.9 and 96.3
The second one - 95.9 Winifred Schools-Cox Hospital 12-14-05 0716.mp3 - is actually two stations in one clip. The first station is talking about no school at Winifred Schools, then is overtaken by another station that is finishing an advertisement for Cox Hospital.
Russ-PA
12-15-2005, 04:54 PM
" the Eagle" is likely KZZI.
"Winifred Schools" is likely KLCM Lewiston, MT. Winifred is very close by, and that was the one US location I got multiple Google hits on for "Winifred Schools". Apparently Google knows of no person with that name...
Finally, I'm not confident that the station mixing is saying "Cox Hospital" It sounds like it has two syllables....

Short and sweet - country music station sweeper with intro to Jamie O'Neil's "Somebody's Hero". K-95, B-95, ??? Be my guest, take a stab at it, who do you think it is? I've got a couple ideas - would like to see what you think.

Clear as a bell here Jim. That's WBBN "B-95" Taylorsville, Hattiesburg, MS 100kw http://www.b95country.com/
I can get them on tropo often, but not tonight otherwise I'd get you a audio to match.
Nice... Ms to MS :D

12-19-2005, 08:01 PM
Here's a close one.... on 101.7 at 9:29am Dec 19. Only 2 second ping with "101.7 The " and what sounds like either storm or zoo. The only two slogans that are even close.
Jim can you hear "The Zoo" KZEW Wheatland, WY (3kw) or is that translator in Boulder too close? KZEW is 1293 miles, seems pretty unlikely for a 3kw on Ms but you never know. If you can match the voice and background audio that would confirm. Seems odd for an AC station though.
The only other that this could be is WMXN Stevenson, AL "101.7 The Storm" classic rock which is 2kw and 296 miles north. This could be an airplane scatter signal. I've never heard either stations before.
I'm throwing in this SS station signal too as it sounds like a possible ID in there. I can't tell if it's one of the Mexicans or maybe KTCY Azle, TX "Super Estrella" Then there's another ping with "101.7" at the end that's just short of ID. Argg.
Russ-PA
12-19-2005, 08:14 PM
It'll have to be a voice match I think. I can't find anything like either "Storm" or "Zoo" there - I'm not even sure the next word is even "The"...
Jim Thomas
12-20-2005, 01:56 PM
Randy,
Your 101.7 at 9:29am Dec 19 - its not KZEW Wheatland WY. I'm almost positive its 101.7 KLTD Temple TX "Eagle 101" - listen to the clip again - I clearly hear the sfx of an eagle or hawk cry as the announcer is saying "101 point 7 The...." I can't find any other matches that would be 'The Eagle' or 'The Hawk' on 101.7. If you find another within Ms range, then all bets are off :-)
KW4RZ
12-20-2005, 10:27 PM
I don't think it's KLTD as they go by "Eagle 101.7" rather than "The Eagle"
I heard them for over 2 hours via tropo on Dec 3 and don't recall a "screeching" in their slogan at any time but that was in the evening. Perhaps they ID different in the morning.
I'm not sure about KTUN "The Eagle" in Colorado. I'm almost positive the audio goes "101.7 The zo.." and you hear another voice doubling that sounds like "The Zo..." to me. There is no 101.7 The zone" on any of my resources. There is "The Storm" I'm leaning to what Russ thinks that it's not "The" anything and perhaps saying something else or "The station...". I emailed the clip to KZEW just in case. Here's my ID clip of KLTD on tropo the other day. the voice guy does kind of sound the same though. Arggg.
Jim Thomas
12-22-2005, 09:38 AM
Randy - ya' gotta hear this.
After your reply, I decided to spin the antenna around to the west and see if I could get KTUN "The Eagle". Its not so easy now that they moved to 101.7 from 101.5 - I think they reduced their power by half with the frequency change . Being over 100 miles away UP in the mountains also makes it more difficult. When I could get them on 101.5 (which was almost always), I don't recall them using an Eagle screech, but then....
I digress :-) Anyway, listen to your clip, then compare it to my clip. I think you have a winner!
KW4RZ
12-22-2005, 08:43 PM
Thanks Jim! I'm still not convinced though. KTUN's eagle screech sounds different to me, higher pitched. Can you tune in KZEW? What does their slogan sound like? I'm hoping they have animal sounds too. I tried hard for them last night when I had Laramie FM's in here on E skip but no joy. A religious station was all I heard on 101.7 which was most likely KREJ Medicine Lodge, KS as Dodge City area was also in. If curious here's what I heard on Es :

I found the ski area-

Just curious if anyone knows who this might be??
I've been working 95.9 for meteor scatter almost the entire month of December. Before December, I had -0- logs on 95.9 for meteor scatter. With the month about to close, i've now logged 10 new and 2 relogs (prev. Es). There's still about another dozen I could logged on 95.9. I may finish out 95.9 through the Quadrantids and then try a different frequency, although we're going to go into a real drop in meteor scatter activity, as there won't be any big ones coming up for awhile.
The repeats on 95.9 have been a religious station (either WLKX Forest Lake MN, KTRI Mansfield MO, WDQN DuQuoin IL, or KUUZ Lake Village AR) which I still haven't been able to nail down, WRBA Springfield FL, and WCNA Potts Camp MS (which has been a ton).

My bad!! Boy, what the mind and fingers will do. After I heard the "Swiss Valley" and was typing my message, I had just been looking at something with the "Deer Valley" name in it and got "Swiss" and "Deer" crossed up. Wow! I didn't even realize that I typed the incorrect word - at least the mp3 was there to correct me.
I have mud all over my face. Sorry about that guys. And also, I was in a little bit of a hurry to get on the road - possibly the reason for my lack of 'focus' and having the time to follow it up more.

Okay, time for some new stuff. These are all from 95.9 today.
The KILR clip - you couldn't ask for a better call letter id!
The Chili Peppers clip - is that just the song info, or is there something idable there?
I couldn't find anything in the FM Atlas for "95.9 Thunder" ???
Then I have one thats tagged as a 'mystery' - it begins with Lonestar's "Let's Be Us Again", then a dj mentions a 'two for Tuesday' and something ?? 96. ??
The 'Just A Teaser' file is a long clip of meteor scatter music that is one of those, "how long is this going to last?" without getting to the dj's mic break. Aarrrrrgh!!

Hi Jim, here's what I get.
Can't say much about the Chili Peppers song, I'm sure it's not what it sounds like, they'd get slapped by the FCC!!
The "Thunder 95-9" is WDMO Durand, WI.... awesome catch!! they are only 1kw!
the "Mystery" with Lonestar song goes into what sounds like a second station "Winners on a two-fer Tuesday... and either "On FM 96" or "Hot FM 96" which could be KIIK Fairfield, IA but they are noted as being "Hot 96 FM"
the audios sound a bit "watery" on my speakers.
Too bad on the Chicago song going on so long.. I didn't have many burns over 10 seconds long this shower but there sure were a bunch between 1-3pm local!! I'll post my unid's and ID's later on.

Excellent ! I had an Oldies station in these much of the hour plus when things were fairly hot, and I'd had another ping with Oldies into ABC news. And it's actually a station never heard before ! Thanks!
But I still have an hour ofr recordings from the following overnight to listen to...
Still very occasional pings noted midday today on 106.5 but nothing so far ID'able...

Two more 95.3 unID's from 1/3. As usual, the date/time is imbedded in the filename.

Here's an Ms unid on 95.3 from 1/3 1452. Not a lot to go on, but that's hardly unusual.
Russ, I hear "join the K-95 ___ team.. it's fast it's easy, it's free..." in there at 00:10+. Is that WKHK
Colonial Heights, VA??

Most likely. I for some reason couldn't pull the audio out on these two. WKHK is usually a troposcatter pest here and Tuesday was no different. Also had another troposcatter pest in there much of the time - WZRV-VA with oldies.

Not much to do with meteors with all the tropo lately.
I did run on 101.7 the morning of the 11th and caught this close one. I hear "The sounds is good, 101.7" but maybe it's something else?

Hard to tell, Randy - I agree it could be something else.... just the "sound" of the slogan makes it sound like an AAA / "River" type station, FWIW.
