View Full Version : Would it make sense to have a separate DTV DX forum?

Hey Mike-CT,

Just a thought. DTV DX is mostly UHF, and a bit of a different beast from the (low) VHF E-skip variety. Would it make sense for it to have its own area on WTFDA Forums?

Some folks might be shy about reporting those couple-hundred mile DTV captures when their reports are interleaved with thousand mile+ VHF reports.
When really, what's impressive and unusual at UHF is different that what's impressive and unusual at VHF.

It seems to be turning out that DTV DXing is can be quite rewarding with the 6th gen. ATSC hardware, like in the CECB converter boxes.

Then again, now that I think about it, for the USA, after next Feb. nearly all OTA analog TV reception will be DX (except for the low power stations that aren't going digital - yet). It'll really be a different beast from DTV DX after Feb.

yes, but remember there will be plenty of central & South American, Caribbean, Cuban, and Canadian DX to look for; so might make good sense to create a DTV forum separately; sounds like a good idea tome.

Hmm, I think we tried this before- along with the creation of a few other forums. The activity was so low though that we ended up closing and combining them. Having Analog and HDTV in this forum keeps it active. However there is more activity on the forums now, so perhaps that idea should be revisited.

We do have an HDTV forum, however most posts in there tend to be discussion about HDTV vs actual logs.

I've thought about it. One solution would be to take the Got TV DX? Forum and split it into Got Analog TV DX? and Got Digital TV DX? , and then moving the threads from Got TVDX into the proper forums. There are a couple of other ways you could do it also.

True that analog TV DX will still be around but I wonder how much. I doubt there will be much up here in New England in the summer. The Got TV Dx Forum will probably end up as 90%+ DTV anyway after February wouldn't you think?

Another idea is maybe a Forum for Internationl TV DX, a place where Mexican, Caribbean and South American loggings (and whatever else is left) can go. And a forum for domestic (US/Canada) TV DX.

Michael and I can toss around some ideas, plus we ought to ask WTFDA members for their input also, since they pay for this.

For the time being, I'd let it ride and revisit it again around transition time. My 2¢ anyway.
