Radio Gotel Yola Nigeria 917 KHz

Hi

This station is being widely heard as a heterodyne beat with 918 KHz in Europe
which it "should" be on to conform with 9KHz spacing.Very little information
on it and no website/contact address.If you Google Radio Gotel Yola there's
a reference to the transmitter having been stolen from elsewhere !!

id is at 3:00 (including their microphone hum!!) and then news in English at 19.00utc.Some QRM on the recording from Radio Benue Nigeria on 918 KHz (beat note notched out).Recorded on 21st August.Benue can't be pleased with this 917 KHz station as it's
close enough to cause them a lot of QRM

Station closes at 23.00utc each night but some E Coast dxers might hear it.
especially the whistle Supposed to be 50KW.It can sometimes be off air
unexpectedly!!

For the past few evenings Duba 1521 has been blasting in here causing havoc to stations on 1520 from around 7:30pm (2330UTC), so conditions are good. I'll be looking for the whistle. Right now I'm stuck with one longwire and my phaser has been sent out for repairs, but I'll try.

phone in show from 22.00-2300 utc before they close

NYC stations were strong here this morning!

That's a strong signal,just listened to it here and it's 10dB over S9
an hour before sunset around 2,600 miles away!!

Transmitter power is listed at 2 Megawatts.We used to think Radio Luxembourg on 1440 was massive with 1200KW (much less now on 1440KHz).
Presumably they're not too bothered about the electricity bill !!

Well it's 18.15UTC now & 1521 Saudi gone up to 40 over S9,sun still out here too!!

917 seems more or less normal tonight,a little weak maybe.

1521 Saudi is now 50 dB above S9 at 21.10 utc

Ooooo ... I've gotta get going on my BIG loop. I want to make an 8 footer for good sensitivity. I have a feeling this is going to be a good winter for AM DX !
