This is strictly for entertainment purposes.
I took one of the 59 minute auto-record audio files and removed the dead spaces. It totals out to just under 7 minutes. It's a big file, about 1.6 mb.
I DXed 101.7 for most of the Geminids shower aimed north and this is from 7:10-8:09am Dec 13. WTOT which is a pest on this freq usually, at 76 miles east, has been off the air so the frequency is usually dead quiet. Unfortunately most of the stations in the US on 101.7 are rather low power. Only a handful of stations are over 20kw and the 2 highest powered are Spanish stations in Texas. There's also 7 high power stations in Mexico 900-1100 miles so you'll hear quite a bit of SS which is often remarkably strong off the back null of the antenna. I got 2 positive ID's out of this run with WKSW Urbana, OH "Kiss Country" 3kw 682 miles and WCCL Central City, PA "The Oldies Station ..Happy Holidays.. Cool 101.7" jingle. 720 watts at 798 miles. Shortly after that is some semi distorted Spanish romantica which is characteristic of KXGJ Bay City, TX 100kw 579 miles. There may be a few other possible ID's in here too. There seems to be more talk radio than any other format on this frequency but there are only 2 stations in range with that format and are both 3kw (WTYE-IL, and WWBU-VA) This hour calculates to about 1 second of DX to every 9 seconds during this time. At the same time on the 14th an hour condensed down to 11 minutes of DX signals for 1 second of DX to every 6-7 seconds.
How does this compare to other's observations of unattended recording?
