Does anyone ever ponder the idea of building your own FM receiver?
Is it impractical?
It seems like a good FM circuit in a custom wooden box with a silky smooth vernier dial would be very cool!
Anybody have any thoughts on the subject?

Depends. What have you built so far?

Absolutely not a thing!
Just thought maybe some gurus on this board, had "already been down that road"...

Nah, I will leave that up to the experts!
Took me years to put up an antenna, much less put one together.....
Closest thing may be those who have tinkered with Heathkit models. I remember a Heathkit store close to home in the 1970s (which IIRC also carried FM Atlas!), and one Saturday morning I was playing with one of the FM rx's & getting nice signals from stations I could never normally hear.....however, this just may have been a strong tropo day.

Speaking of kits, there may still be some kits available at Ramsey Electronics, although maybe not exactly what you are looking for. You may owe it to yourself to get their free catalog anyway.
