I have found that the location in our home office is far from ideal as I am picking up lots of elect. energy (noise) in my receivers... .is there a method for locating the BEST spot in ones home to place your equipt? The only way I could think of was to use a small portable sw receiver tuned to a distant signal and go from room to room through out our Condo......I have a Grundig G-6 Aviator that I used and ofcourse while going from room to room in my pwr. chair, it was very noisey but then I would stop and shut the chair off and listen for the signal strength difference.. ..I realize this is not very scientific, so can any of you suggest a better method without buying an expensive piece of equipt.(if there is such a thing) to test with........ ...
Thanks in advance

If you are talking strictly about AM (or to a lesser extent, SW), I haven't a clue anymore. I don't do any AM DXing anymore, due to my house being just one big set of electric wires.

Even when I take my Superadio in the front yard, I cannot escape the noise.

Last week, the electricity was off for 4 hours....that was the only time I could do the hobby!

Find a nice battery-operated AM radio (preferably the Superadio II), a Select-a-Tenna, a battery cassette recorder, go to a beach or lake, and enjoy! You may get a tan out of it as well.

Thanks for your reply CD;
I listen to both SW and MW now-a-days and would like to increase my MW DXing here in the USA....I have found a couple of fairly quiet spots in our Condo and will set-up shop in one of them and give it a go.....I am still researching the various options for a dedicated MW loop ant. and have spoken with the gent from DX Electronics that makes the Quantum series and also read various reviews on most of the choices---seems the CCrane Twin Coil is close behind the Quantums as far as performance goes and is half the price........hummmm
Being in a wheelchair makes going mobile a bit difficult but it sure would be fun once the weather warms up here in Ohio !!!

I would find a spot that is comfortable for you....hook that R8B to the Quantum loop (I have one too). Use the loop to null out the noise. I'm "in the same boat" you are...the noise is everywhere and often it is coming from the neighbors..which means not much can be done about it. I know one ham radio friend who moved to the top of a mountain to get rid of his various problems but I'm "po' folks" so not an option for me hi hi..73 Greg WDX9KHY in Illinois

Greg;
Thanks for your reply and suggestions.....I found by taking a portable around the house that my main interference was coming from all things.....my mobility scooter on the charger in the garage !!!! :eek:----I dis-connected the charger and the interference dropped drastically...so I am back in the office with my R-8 and Quantum QX loop (Love that antenna !!!) and enjoying some domestic MW DXing as well as a few Canadian as well as a couple of MW stations in Cuba......life is good again (Lol) I am hopeing to add a Drake SW-8 to my arsenal here shortly which will enable me to go outside on the hill behind our condo with my scooter or power chair and set-up a mini- DXing spot so to speak...looking forward to the warm weather....
Thanks again and 73's
