I ran across this review by a respected member of our MW community and was wondering if any of you have purchased one of these receivers or had any experience with one of the R-30A's or the earlier models?

Sounds as though they are a real bargain and a legitimate MW DXing machine..Thanks

The operator of that site is on the WTFDA email lists - don't know if he's on here. He has an R-30. I've seriously considered purchasing one myself. For my situation though, the lack of a couple of features have caused me to defer making a decision. It's a good receiver, American-made, high quality, and lightweight and portable. A good combination, even if the price may seem steep - it isn't really when one compares what else is available new...

Russ;
Thanks for the reply....have you heard of any quality control issues with the R-30-A?--It is a 'Bare-Bones' receiver for sure but it has alot of benifits as well..it would be nice to be able to go portable with it and the Quantum QX as there is a nice hill just outside the back garage door on our Condo and I can climb the hill with both my power chair or mobility scooter and I could go up there and setup shop if the weather where good..sounds like it would be a good location for some MW DXing. Gerry Thomas ranked the Palstar R-30 as being the third best table top MW-DXing machine behind the high dollar Drake R/8-R/8-A but he stated that there "may" be some looming QC problems but they where not yet sure if the complaints where legite..I sent him an email tonight asking if he had heard anymore on the subject..just wondering if you had heard anything.
Thanks;
