If you heard 1180 in the say, are u sure it wasn't Cuba? They put a monster Rebelde signal to combat Radio Marti. Would not surprise me at all.
Keep in mind, between FWB & Cuba, nothing but lover-ly salt water!!
There's an 1180 in Houston that may be Spanish. Not sure.

Although I haven't heard it here, if I recall correctly, 570 and 790 are infamous Radio Reloj stations from Cuba that put out decent signals to the US at night.
Reloj is very easy to distinguish - listen for news in Spanish with the sound of a clock ticking behind the voice of the announcer. Once every minute there is either "RR" in Morse Code (.-. .-.), or an instrumental tone (this is done only one day a week I think).
According to Wikipedia - 820, 830, 850, 860, 950, and 1020 are other frequencies that carry Radio Reloj.
I cannot find a similar 1700 in the US or Mexico, that could be Cuban as well, although that format doesn't sound very Cuban...

1700 oldies would likely be KVNS Brownsville TX, but no Spanish in there. 1700 in Miami Springs, WJCC, is currently all Haitian Creole.
Easy difference.....if you hear commercials on AM, rule out Cuba. If none are heard, it's likely Cuba. And, their announcers lack the energy of the Mexican announcers.
