I thought the other thread was getting awfully long with 139 posts and 14 pages, so I closed that thread for posting.
Lets see how fast you guys can fill up this one!

With all the Es and tropo going on down here lately I haven't been looking for meteors much. But here's a few recent catches.
93.9 WDRR Martinez/Augusta, GA 13kw 337 miles "The new 93-9 The Drive"
could be airplane scatter being this short and in the late morning.
And a few unid'ed signals on 93.9 that might be your station up there, Chris. Do you hear "Lite FM"?

The 1124 clip contains a concert promo for 4/3, but not being familiar with much of current music, I can't quite pick it out. It sounds like they're sharing billing with 'Green Day' but I couldn't find their future tour dates.
The third clip talks about "The Turning Point" and "Focus on the Family" and inspirational music but neither program site lets you search frequency alone. None of the few religious stations on 93.9 show either program on 100000watts.

Ms activity at extremely low levels last night.
Presumed 93.7 KYTI Sheridan WY caught with an ad for something on the Fort Douglas Highway in Gillette (WY) at 0552 - and that's it (clip attached).
Also since the site is taking clips again, attaching an Es clip from the Tucson opening last week. 92.1 KFMA Green Valley AZ.

This one came in at 5:50 this morning.
There's an ad for a jeweler, then "93.7 K**Y" or "K**I". To me it sounds most like KKRY, which it can't be. Anyone else? And can anyone else pull out the name of the jeweler, or the town?

Dave, I looked over all the possibilities of your unID and it looks like there is no other than 93.7 KKRL Carroll, IA a 100,000 watter. Sounds like it to me.
Nice Ms catches, KKRL looks like about 1300 miles?

Thought about that one. Yes, KKRL is far, but I have had them via Es. That last letter sounds so much like an I or Y on my system. But it really does sound like "KKR..."
I'll see if I can match up the jeweler to someone in or around Carroll.
Thanks Randy!

Thanks Randy, Jim, and Russ. At 1325 miles, KKRL is my fifth-longest Ms catch. And the really odd thing here is that this reception was off the side of the antenna - I was pointed almost straight south.

outstanding Dave! That was an excellent catch. No doubt whatsoever that it is KKRL.
My furthest Ms so far is 101.3 WKCG Augusta, ME at 1324 miles and there's only 2 others from above 1100 miles. Meteor distances past 1000 seems to be rare here. 90% of mine are 500-1000 miles.
Pings were way above normal today. Hundreds and hundreds caught on recording from 6:30am-5pm. Most only 1-4 seconds long. Only one good ID though which was the longest caught at 32 seconds., many close calls with only one of those worth posting.
The ID is 93.9 KCRN San Angelo, TX 100kw 813 miles
unid sounds like a pharmacy ad and I hear "Wyoming" and someplace in Nebraska.
Dave-OR
02-14-2006, 11:03 PM
Certainly these were two separate stations on the clip.
My guess is that the Wyoming mention is KTAK Riverton, with the Nebraska being KSWN McCook with an ad mentioning Lexington, which is not all that far away. Having the two together would make sense from a bearing standpoint.
Just an educated guess, though! Less sure about KTAK and more positive about KSWN (which I -know- you've had by Es, right? Many times?)

Yeah Dave. 93.9 KSWN is the most commonly heard station on E skip from here at 1041 miles. I didn't hear them Feb 13 though which was odd. NW Kansas was in. I did hear them on both openings to the northwest in December and many times over last summer.. I've had them on Ms too. Quite by coincedence McCook, NE is my father's hometown.

This one lasts a looooong time. It's all music (ID'd via RDS, PS "KWMT", PI 4B63, PTy None, and NO RT), so I can understand anyone who doesn't find the clip intrinsically interesting to listen to. But it is well over a minute long, with "local" quality sound through the middle of it. I chopped off the end - it fades back a few times as well over the following 30 seconds.
As I said on the mail group this AM - this -could- be Es.

Lots of really really short pings. Thought the day was lost until one of those happened to be just long enough for an ID at Noon. "KSKS" is all I get out of the clip, but hey, I'll take calls any day. I believe this is Ms #193, California Ms #23 or 24. KSKS Fresno, CA 68KW 521 Miles.

And from yesterday morning. 93.9 KSWN McCook, NE 50kw 1041 miles "US 93-9"
93.9 CIDR Windsor, ON 68kw 834 miles "Today's Best Music, 93.9 FM" generic, but unique slogan, I've heard them enough to recognize the voice guy :)

Here's an example of grabbing Ms right through Tr.
The attached clip IDs semi-local KMSW The Dalles OR (90 miles from here), then fades into KKUU Indio CA with a promo for their "U92.7 Summer Love Jam". It fades back into KMSW at the end of the clip.

Here are some recent Ms pings I've heard here in Northern VA/Wash DC. I decided to throw a few in from the Perseids shower since I'm a fairly new member and they weren't posted before. The 8/06 recordings were from a Pioneer DEH-P6700MP car radio, the others are from the Denon TU-1500RD.
94.1 WWKR Pentwater, WI 590mi. 10/21/06 Antenna pointed south. Faint "...Rock 94.1" heard.
96.5 KRBZ Kansas City, KS 936mi. 8/12/06 Mention of "Mylist (Myspace) Weekend" confirmed on their website, plus station name. The station came in for about 8 seconds after the mp3 cuts off.
96.5 WHTQ Orlando, FL 731mi. 8/12/06 Station name heard.
98.5 CHMP Mongueil, QC 508mi. 10/6/06 I'm pretty sure its CHMP given its french, and that its the only 98.5 I could find in the French-speaking part of Canada.
100.1 CIOO Halifax, NS 812mi. 9/20/06 "C100" name heard

This isn't much, but attached is a clip of WTNT 94.9 Tallahassee, FL (relog) at 685 miles. The clip has a brief mention of 'South East Eye Specialists.' A google search on the business mentioned two, one in Chattanooga, TN (with no 94.9s in the area), and the other in Tallahassee who has WTNT on the frequency. There hasn't been many Ms pings here lately due to some tropo pests on my best Ms frequencies (93.5, 94.9, 98.5, 101.7), but the weather currently being in the mid-30s is helping keep those frequencies clear for any Ms.

Last night was great with Ms. While checking my files in Wavepad, I noticed that more than 25 Ms pings came in from 11PM-10AM, although most were too short to ID anything. Attached is a great clip from KZPK 98.9 Paynesville, MN "Wild Country 99" at a distance of 1001 mi. The clip has a clear mention of the station's name, morning show and time. The station came in for 42 seconds (in and out, not continuous), and I almost mistaken it (and skipped over it) as tropo from nearby pests WWLB Midlothian/Richmond, VA or WUSL Philadelphia. After the identification in the clip, I took a part of the audio from later in the 42-sec burn where it is clear. I would've thought RDS would've kicked in, but unfortunately it didn't. Also interesting to note, KZPK is NW of me, while my antenna was facing SW.
The second clip is a mystery to me, maybe one of you could help. The calls sound like WA _ _ , but the song starting is a match to the yes.com WBAM 98.9 Montgomery, AL's song at the time. I don't think its WBAM, since a quick listen to their webcast shows they don't have sung jingles, instead they have a voiceguy reading their liners. It could possibly be WANT 98.9 from TN. Any help would be appreciated.
I also picked up relog KQRC 98.9 Leavenworth, KS @ 936mi, but a clip isn't attached since I matched the song currently playing (at the time) to yes.com.

Thanks for your help Randy! You are right, KZPK was indeed received by Es. Upon further listening to the wave file, KZPK could be heard faintly coming in and out four minutes after the initial recording attached above. I didn't notice it lasted so long since I was going by the waveform picture in Wavepad which shows the peak lasting 44 seconds. Pretty neat to have Es on a mid-band frequency like 98.9 in late November, I wish I was home to see if anything else was coming in. But, it doesn't surprise me given that I had Es on TV 2 & 3 (weak, all unID) later in the same day.

99.1 WRKW Ebensburg, PA 50kw 817 miles

It's been dead down here. Recording from midnight - 5pm every day there hasn't been any Ms ID's in 6 days. The actual number of meteor burns overal is way down the last week. Today was no different, other than only recording from 7am-4:30pm. There might have been a total of 20 burns over 3 seconds long. What happened today was rather unlikely. Three different ID's out of the 20 or so total burns spread out over the day on 93.9 CIDR Windsor, ON. What are the chances? Historically the usual ratio of ID's on 3+ second burns is about 1 out of 50 or more. The first ID at 7:36 was the only burn all day that was more than 10 seconds long.

The December meteors have always been the best shower from my location.
With cold dry winter air many frequencies that are usually occupied by stations 100-250+ miles stay clear much of the day.
Here's some recent ID's. None are new logs but KFUO and ZNS are new via meteors.
93.9 KSSZ Fayette, MO 25kw 680 miles "The Eagle 93.9" news/talk, not the usual tropo pest WQSI "Eagle" country 141 miles north.
93.9 KCRN San Angelo, TX 100kw 813 miles, a healthy 23 sec burn with weak call letters and religious music. Likely also the burn that produced the RDS readout "KCRN-FM"
104.5 WLKT Lexington, KY 50kw 543 miles "104.5 The Cat" with CHR
104.5 ZNS-FM Nassau, Bahamas 10kw 677 miles .. antenna was north. First Bahamas station via meteors
99.1 WQIK Jacksonville, FL 100kw 295 miles. A usual tropo pest but this is obviously a meteor or airplane reflection.
99.1 KFUO Clayton/St. Louis, MO 100kw 599 miles no audio but the RDS readout on the Denon greeted with "KFUO FM". Previously logged via tropo. There were several strong burns of classical music that would have been this station.

Is it quiet everywhere else or has everyone else given up?
Randy, as you know I hit Ms hard in 2005-2006. It became a case of diminishing returns, with many frequencies having 3-5 "dominant" stations. Example: on 102.5, I tried for about a month to grab KQHC Casper, WY, but each night seemingly brought KZSD-SD, KTRR-CO, and KNIX-AZ. KQHC is the -only- station within Ms range I don't have from here on 102.5, and the same is true on many of my other Ms frequencies.
This, plus the fact that more stations in my area = less frequencies plus + more RFI, and it's just not so fun any more.
Just wait til skip season, though. I still have perhaps 60 frequencies open enough for Es :-).

Hey Randy ... it's been quiet here. I've been recording most days for Ms, and in the past few months I've been getting a few pings here and there, none that resulted in a positive ID. Hopefully soon some more Ms will come my way, or the Es season will start a little bit early.
