Hello - Some DXers may already know me via email contacts. My name is Geoff from Numeralla NSW Australia. I've been an avid FM DXer since 1983.

I enjoy all forms of FM DX incl Tropo, Es, MS, AS & auroral backscatter.

My main DX gear:

Sony XDR-F1HD, Onkyo Integra T-4650, Pioneer supertuner III-D (in the car).
12 Element Log Periodic FM
outdoor dipole (intended for FM broadcast) but makes a good reception antenna at Band 1 (40 - 80mhz).:D

I hope WFTDA members don't mind me joining as I'm not an official member of the club.

Best FM catch = 92.1 KSBS American Samoa (2,700 miles+) - double hop.

That's a brief introduction :)

Cheers
Geoff Wolfe

Hi Geoff,
Welcome to the forums! The WTFDA Forums are open to anyone, anywhere. You don't need to be a WTFDA member to post here. If you check the members list you'll find others from Australia here.

It was good talking to you on IRC chat. Hope you have a good upcoming Es season!

I know Geoff....he sent me some unbelievable DX tapes....e.g. 1580 Phoenix in AM stereo....even better stuff than that, and I'm not sure if anyone here would believe it.

Do you know me, Geoff, strictly from my info here??? :)

Hi Chris. I do indeed remember you. Sorry to have sort of 'lost contact' over time. We all tend to become 'occupied' with life & other matters. I was impressed by your Latin TV/FM DX. Glad to see your still active (but I guess once you have the DX bug, it never goes away :).

oh - re: KMIK - its flashes the HD logo here on my XDR but can't get a digital lock, despite a strong signal (3 bars).

Looking forward to the upcoming Es season as there are only 5 or so local FMs & no band 1 here at Numeralla :D

Looks like we'll get another 2 seasons out of KVZK-2 TV American Samoa as I saw a press release online that said the analogue had been extended to give islanders more time to 'convert' over to DTV. I received nice audio on 59.75 from them 3 or 4 times last summer.

Thanks for the welcome from all.

Geoff

All the Radio Disneys have HD as far as I know....and for cryin' out loud, what kid wants an AM radio anyway, today??? (WMYM 990 is my local Disney, and the signal is marginal at best here.)

Be it AM Stereo, or AM HD, AM is not the future. As far as AM DXing, all we can hope for, is more stations shutting off, and more HD's dropping (as they are doing).

As far as AM In Australia, you have DAB there, which may or may not take off.....I'll admit, it's nice to have your local Aussie AM's on the Web to listen to, at the touch of a button. www.magic1278.com.au & the Sunday Gold (Saturday evenings in the US) at www.4kz.com.au are a treat for me.

Geoff,

Welcome.

Here are some radio/TV-related photos from my trip to QLD 30 years ago to visit relatives http://home.swbell.net/pjdyer/1979vk4.htm and my VUD column about it http://home.swbell.net/pjdyer/vudvhf/vudsep79.htm (a 35-MHz US pager heard while there http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/ra/kuc91579.ra). http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/ww2/1535hist.htm how I come to have "VK roots".

Solar Cycle 22 provided me the most 50-MHz contacts http://home.swbell.net/pjdyer/50mhzdxa.htm When they were only allowed to use 52-MHz (until c. 1984) it was very difficult from this far over vs later on at 50-MHz.
