XHRIOTV Matamoros, MX ???

Cant really find the transmitter site on Google Earth for XHRIO (48.3 RF 49)for a measurement. From what I've read, the transmitter is located a few miles inside the Mexican border along the lower Rio Grand Valley. Where along the border is the problem. Maybe someone can give me a hand with this one. :)

Those are great catches.

Pardon my ignorance, but did you receive XHRIO analog on channel 2 or XHRIO as a subchannel of KNVO-DT49? XHRIO-2 is on KNVO-DT's subchannel 48-3.

Thanks. It was on the sub channel with PSIP info as XHRIOTV. It's a bit confusing because it shows up as a subchannel, yet everthing I read says it's transmitter site is inside the Mexican border. I've been using Google Earth with the transmitter icon overlay in Tvfool. Not sure if you're familiar with it, but its a very cool feature. Anyway, about a month ago I know I saw XHRIO on the Google map...but now it seems to have vanished. Perhaps because of the recent map update. Dunno. But I'm sure if anyone can set me straight on this, you can. :D

Mike, you can call me nutty; but I'm not sure for what you are looking.

As far as I know, there is no XHRIO-DT. KNVO-DT49 carries XHRIO as a subchannel, which you already know. (I have a picture of the subchannel on one of my pages.)

XHRIO-2 is an analog TV on RF channel 2, which you already know. Their transmitter is indeed in the Matamoros/Reynosa area. Their antenna is probably on or near the towers of XHAB-7, XERV-9, and the other Televisa stations in that market.

Google Earth and TV Fool are interesting, but I rely on Doug's TV Data: http://www.w9wi.com/

I'm always glad to help, but I'm not sure this is any help...

OK I guess I was thinking, being it was licensed to Matamoros, that that transmitter was in Mexico. But apparently its licensed to Matamoros, but the transmitter is part of the facilities at KNVO in the U.S., thus being a subchannel of KNVO. Does that sound right?

P.S. I think I'm the nutty one. :D

The analog ch. 2 is, indeed, across the border, but it sounds like they do not have digital facilities built there yet, so for now their digital programming is being piggybacked on KNVO. So, you logged KNVO, not XHRIO (it's the transmitter site that matters, not what's being shown on the channel).

Yep. Now I'm unconfused. :) I was looking at XHRIO as standalone instead of piggyback. Thanks guys.

Stan, you are exactly right!

Mike, you are not nutty. You are a newcomer to this strange hobby, a hobby that has changed drastically in recent times. Just stick with it a while, and you'll be an expert before long.

XHRIO is an anomaly (is that the right word here?)....Mexican station technically; but being that it's a subchannel of a US station, they have to comply by FCC rules.

I caught the analog 2 on skip 2 months ago, and I had no idea that they were a sub of a US DTV.....their logo usually shows "XRIO" (sic), but when it's time for station ID, they say "This is XHRIO" (and the logo is modified to include the H), "KNVO-DT".

Unusual indeed.....

Mike, you are not nutty.

Sure, he is -- all DXers are. ;) That's why I've been more of a sidelines kibitzer over the years than an active participant in the hobby -- I'm crazy enough as it is, and don't need to exacerbate the situation... :D

KNVO with its subchannel assortment would confuse anyone getting it for the first time.

Well if nutty is the worst thing I'm called here...then I already feel like a winner! :D

Yeah Pat when I first saw that PSIP info, I said "oh yeah, I pulled in Mexico!"
