I am unable to watch YouTube from my work, but first I must say that ANY E-skip caught in the month of Feb is special enough, much less DTV Es!

(Feb's the only month where I honestly have never caught e-skip.)

Maybe I should keep my mouth shut since I haven't seen the video, but I thought KIMT was on DTV channel 42...

Maybe some other MyTV on 3?

If it was KIMT, it would have been tropo, rather than Es, given that they are a UHF frequency. What makes you think it was KIMT? I just briefly saw the 3-2 on the screen and the MY TV logo in the lower right corner.

Currently MNTV's website shows five affiliates that carry them and represent the channel as 3-2, but none of those stations broadcast on VHF. All are assigned to UHF and wouldn't be possible to receive via Es. I'm really curious if you were getting skip or if tropo wasn't stirring and the channel received remapped to 3-2?

For the record, the five stations that carry MNTV as a sub-channel and remap to 3-2.......
65. Charleston-Huntington, W.V. WSAZ-DT 3-2 MNTV 'New digital subchannel' - Gray Television (broadcasts on RF 23)
85. Madison, Wisconsin WISC-DT 3-2 MNTV - Morgan Murphy Stations (RF 50)
96. Savannah, Georgia WSAV-DT 3-2 MNTV 'New digital subchannel' - Media General (RF 39)
121. Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-San Luis Obispo, CA KEYT-DT 3-2 MNTV 'New digital subchannel' - Smith Media, LLC (RF 27)
154. Mason City, Iowa KIMT 3-2 MNTV (CBS) - New Vision Television (RF 42)

You can see the UTV barely in the upper right hand corner.

Technically, the mode would still be tropo and not Es, regardless of who it was. The reason I say this is because there isn't any affiliate MNTV that broadcasts on low VHF, which is where you would get Es from (and to a lesser extent, high VHF).

Then it would have put me into one of those stupid tear drop shapes on the mountian VHF Prop. map.

At least with the DTT901 one can always check in the menu to see what the real RF channel was (if left alone since the decode faded out). This vitual channel mapping is no friend to DXers. http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/lovesavd.htm My best guess on this would be airplane scatter from WSAZ-DT-23.

and my KNOP-DT-2 http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/images/knop-dt-2.1zm.jpg (Jul 13)
I had better luck with WBRA-DT-3 http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/images/wbra-dt-3.1z.jpg
and WHBF-DT-4 http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/images/whbf-dt-4.1z.jpg

With local KCWX-DT-5 (23kw, 48 mi north) a lot of lost targets.

That FM rock station at the beginning sounds a lot more like WQXA. You hear the "Everything that Rocks" slogan which is used by WQXA, and I listened to their online stream for a few minutes, and its the same exact announcer. Even though this announcer does other stations, I recognize him from WOTT locally.

Of course WQXA is more of like tropo since its roughly 70mi from you.

I also listened to WIXO's stream and they use a different announcer.

EDIT: Also, there is a short ad for the "People's Morning Show" which when googled is a show on WQXA.

Yep. As Jim pointed out earlier, the key factor is Es = VHF not UHF.

To be more specific, E-skip very rarely makes it up to channel 7 on TV. Es on channel 7 is indeed something special.

With over 300 Es logs on TV, I have never IDed a TV station via Es above channel 6. I've received a few, but none stayed around long enough to ID.

I think the last widespread high-band Es was several years back when Mike B and a few other WTFDAers IDed some high-band VHF stations via Es. You can see Mike's pictures of that event on his Web site. The link below will take you to his site:

This from over a half a lifetime ago http://home.swbell.net/pjdyer/aud-fil4.htm
Got KABY-9 (NBC logo under KLRN); 7 Alexandria, MN, 11 Minneapolis in the same Feb 7 event. WTRF-7 Es was in Jun 1975, 7 SC Jun 1987. Some other instances of unid Es on
Ch 7/8 over the decades. With LPTV on 7, 10, 11 and KLRN-DT-8, KLRN-9, and KSAT-12 the Jun 2008 event only showed CCI on 7. This was exciting though http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/ra/kxi68_08.ra

I think I have also ID'd the second FM station that fades in and out halfway through.
There is a phone # at the beginning of the fade in which I cannot make out.

The announcer mentions they need somebody to replace Anita at the station. Googling "anita 105.7" shows recent news stories about Anita Marks leaving WJZ:
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/zontv/2010/01/anita_marks_1057fan_leaves.html

The announcer also mentions the Ravens, who are also from Baltimore. The station definitely carries a sports format, just like WJZ and the frequency matches up.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WJZ-FM

Not 100% sure about this but the references to the Ravens and to Anita make me pretty sure. Also Baltimore looks to be around 80 miles from you so still tropo.

Congratulations LMolineaux for the KDLO-DT reception! :)

(Is the first name Lee?)

I received an email confirmation from Paul Myrick, the engineer at KELO (owners of KDLO), confirming that they do run a subchannel 3-2 "MyUTV". I was curious because MNTV's website and Doug Smith's database did not show them with a subchannel.

So they are number six in that list of stations that present MyTV on 3-2.

I'm still waiting to see KDLO's signal but its too close to me for Es - it will have to be tropo to pull them in.

Sorry, not guilty of publishing the VUD

Those honors go to Mike Bugaj. I publish the Emisoras de FM book (Mexico, Central America, and Caribbean maps and listings).

You can find that on the front page of this Forum.
