Well I've been looking through the forums so I figured I would join in the fun. Here's my story...

I remember in high school I would take our bowtie antenna and see what stations I could pick up just for the heck of it. (We lived in Mount Vernon, OH about 40 or so miles NE of Columbus at the time) I could sometimes pick up some Cleveland stations and even one from Detroit MI. We moved from that house to another one (same town). This one was on a hill and had a rooftop antenna. It was fixed pointing SW toward Columbus, giving us 5 channels from there with really good reception (4, 6, 10, 28, 34). One sunny Sunday afternoon (summer of 2003 I think) I was surfing and noticed that channel 4 had weird thin lines and a high pitched sound coming through. Also there was another picture interfering. I noticed we could now pick up a channel 5 where I saw a weather bulletin about a storm moving through. The weather map they showed looked like Florida. I did some online research and found out it was WPTV-5 in West Palm Beach, FL. I had no clue what was going on. I had no idea TV could travel that far. From then on I scanned and saw what all I could pick up. Now, 7 years later I've decided to get back into it (after seeing this site and some others) and I've started a new log. Over the past few days I've tried to think of all the stations that I had picked up back then and took them down and here's what I've come up with...

First of all...welcome. I'm basically a rookie in DXing myself, but take it from me...get a good antenna outside and you'll see a pretty dramatic difference in what you pull in. ;) Quite a few very knowledgeable people here, so any questions, ask away.

Oh yeah, when I have the means I definitely will.

Im willing to bet that 2003 summer DX you had was around the same time Paul Logan had transatlantic DX, he logged one of my locals WFRY from across the Atlantic.
