Power failure silences CBC on AM dial

WINNIPEG - A power failure has silenced the CBC’s AM broadcast of its Radio One programming.

A CBC spokeswoman said a power failure this morning at the station’s transmission site has silenced the CBC’s broadcast at 990 on the AM dial.

Even the back-up generator has failed.

Crews are trying to restore power but there is no word when that will happen.

But CBC One is still being broadcast on the FM dial, at 89.3 and on the web.

Considering the amount of Canadian Am stations that are shutting down and moving to FM, I'm surprised 990 stays on the air. Last time I heard 990 was 20 or 30 years ago!

They're back. Had Montreal's "Team 990" early, but then Winnipeg came up and over as usual.
