Hi Guys
2CA Canberra 1053 is back in AM stereo & the sound quality really kicks butt . They've been running pilot only for many years. Nice to be able to pull out & blow the dust off those AM stereo tuners :).
Signal is via nighttime skywave as I live over 100km from Canberra.
Check out the attached mp3 recording off my Sony ST-JX220A

AM stereo, its great to see someone still using it. I wish they would get rid of IBOC here in America. To me it sounds worse, trading in the warm sound of analog AM, for a nasty artifact ridden "digital" quality. Of course with very few AM stations being dedicated music stations, the stereo wouldn't really help them out much.

Wow! The quality of that blows me away. I'd go as far to say its better than AM IBOC here in the states, even when you're 15 miles from the tx. Why can't all AM radios be AM stereo decoders, especially the Sony XDR. If that radio had AM Stereo, I think I'd appreciate it more than I already do.

IBOC is a complete failure, especially at night. On nights with good skywave KDKA and WBZ ruin each other's signals with IBOC. They would normally be two very strong and clear signals in my location but the IBOC from KDKA makes WBZ hard to listen to, and the IBOC from WBZ makes KDKA hard to listen to. I still don't get the point of IBOC, because it doesn't make the audio sound any better, its just eliminates background noise which is usually caused by the IBOC signal.

KSL 1160 I-hash makes KFAQ's signal un-listenable even 152 miles from the mammoth blowtorch. I'm sure the fact that KFAQ is also in HD at night makes KSL that much worse. I can't even get it to decode while KOA and KUTR both can (no IBOC on either side).

I can take advantage of the fact that WBZ is directly east of me which means it gets darker in Boston earlier and WBZ is usually in strong before sunset. At around dusk it is really easy to get WBZ to lock in HD. But once its well beyond dark KDKA's IBOC starts affecting WBZ's.
And KDKA, WBZ isn't the only example I have of two perfectly good signals ruining each other with IBOC.
WLW and WOR both degrade one another, I cant remember if WGN is HD or not but that would make 3 50kwers in a row if it is.
