Here are some clips of a Spanish 92.9 in Mono I had pointed toward the Southeast around 2105-2110 Eastern Time. Not sure if this was just a Pirate or E-Skip or what. If anyone can dig out anything from these I'd be most appreciative. Thanks!

At the beginning of the first clip, I was thining "pirate" all the way, but the more I listened and then to the second clip, I'm not so sure. Parts of it have a Dominican feel to them, other parts Cuban. Alas my Spanish is worse than poor, but I think Jim or Humberto will be able to get something out of these...

Some of the 6 m guys on the EC were working into South America earlier this evening, so who knows ? Or should I say 'qien sabe ?'

At least twice in that first clip I think she says
"...de arte Cubana...", maybe about 1/3 into the
clip when she starts saying "Diez de la manana".

Is there a 92.9 in Cuba? The audio certainly sounds
low budget.

Low budget? Sounds like they stole my PC microphone.

My rough translation of the first file (I tend to struggle with distinguishing certain consonants in spoken Spanish, but here goes):

"The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes ("National Museum of Beautiful Arts", common museum name) invites you its collections of Cuban and (something like "Libertal") art from Tuesday to Saturday between ten in the morning and six in the afternoon and on Sundays from 10 in the morning until the ? in/of the afternoon. It is (?) composed/consists/? of Cuban art (something that sounded like "Trocandero" and a mention of the same "Libertal" or whatever it is)

...then it faded...then it came back with an even harder portion...something like "nacional de bellas artes...un opcion ? a tener en cuenta y esta es i....", which seems to translate into "An option to take into account and this is ummm.."., and she rambles something off at light speed followed by "Sunday" and then a fade. I think it's option...at first I thought it was "opcion", then, "auccion", which isn't a word, then "accion", which is possible but unlikely, then again "opcion", since it sounds like the plosive "p" after the first vowel, even though the "o" sounds English-like. Google gave me 79 results for "accion a tener en cuenta", but 24,100 for "opcion a tener en cuenta...".

Then it faded, so on to part 2..

Wow, great job on the translation, thanks a lot for your time! I guess with the Cuban art mentions I'd lean toward Cuba, however, there are several other Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes out there, so who knows (would any other country be showing Cuban art?). This one may be hard to pin down.

The second part starts out with this "...And this deluxe admission", then a word that sounds like it would be spelled "trayerea", some cultural (subsciones?), good music, and a legend, and then what sounds like "sin (or y) jueguera" (?). "Second hour (can't understand) "grupo de creacion sueño lunar". That's an odd phrase..."grupo de creacion" is "creation group", and "sueño lunar" means nothing less than "lunar dream"....and that was one of the clearest parts of the file for me. Then "We will have a* special night/evening today, with the music of Rosi Odulcar. My name is Maria....

*Could be "in the night"

The male voice who pops up says "Estar contigo", which means "To be with you"...could be the station slogan, or the name of a song.

Yes, it is Cuba (and they should seriously consider purchasing an audio processor!!)

The art exhibit in question has an EE news story, found at this link:
http://info.interactivist.net/article.pl?sid=06/02/15/0219208&mode=nested&tid=22

If you don't care to run to the above link, the art exhibit is a Digital Art Exhibit which begins on June 19th, 2006.

Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau VIII SALON Y COLOQUIO INTERNACIONAL DE ARTE DIGITAL
Eighth International Digital Art Exhibit and Colloquium

which actually takes place at various locations throughout 'La Habana', and "Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes" is a sponsor and participant.

The problem with Cuban radio stations, they have numerous translator or repeater stations for primary signals. Unless you can catch the actual station id or slogan, its anybodys guess who it might be. I've been trying like crazy to get "Radiodifusión de Sonora" in Havana to cooperate and send me their official licensed fm radio station list. I can hear them laughing in Havana. Sorry I can't be more help. But you can count a Cuban station in your log, you just don't know which one!!

Not a problem, thanks for your time reviewing the clip!

This is from Christopher Dunne in Florida.

Hi

There's a thread in wtfda.info about an unID 92.9 in SS.

Please tell them (as I am not a member at present) that this has
*gotta*
be R Taino in Cuba. "Estar contigo" is the name of one of their
programs,
I believe. Also IIRC it was in mono when I heard them on my car radio,
as
was reported in the thread.

R Taino streams their audio...I think www.radiostationworld.com has a
link. Also, they have commercials (more like "underwritings").

It helps to have the OFFICIAL list of Cuban fm radio stations, which I just received from the ICRT in Havana on the 17th!

Here's who you were hearing Nick...
92.9 CMBV "Radio Taíno" La Habana 10kw ""La emisora turística de Cuba" "The Tourist Radio Station of Cuba"

Some lists on the internet show them as being on 93.3, but my understanding is they moved to 92.9 sometime last year.

They have a program on Monday through Friday evening called "Estar Contigo", which runs from 9pm-12 midnight.

The description of "Estar Contigo" from their programming schedule: "Con una presencia permanente de anécdotas y posibilidades de acercamiento a museos y centros históricos." Translated, it says, "With a permanent presence of anecdotes and possibilities with regard to museums and historic centers."

If you listen closely to the second clip at 36 seconds, you'll hear the male announcer say, "Estar Contigo". You might say this was a group effort to nail this one down. When I heard the program name, I didn't connect it with the programming or a slogan.

The first file says:
Male voice:
“Ella se llama María “
Female voice
“El museo nacional de Bellas Artes te invita a disfrutar de sus colecciones de arte cubano y universal de martes a sábado entre 10 de la mañana y 6 de la tarde y los domingos de 10 de la mañana hasta las 2 de la tarde. Exposiciones de arte cubano en Trocadero y Zulueta, y de arte universal en ....Fading..... Bellas artes una opción a tener en cuenta, y esta es una recomendación de ..... (fading).”

The second file says:
“Y en esta emisión de lujo te traeré algunas opciones culturales, buena música y una leyenda cienfuegera, ya en la segunda hora por cortesía del grupo de creación sueño lunar, tendremos la noche especial, hoy con la música de Rocío Durcal, me llamo mariela y te propongo que me acompañes .... (Fading).. “Estar contigo” (sort of canned program ID)

by the way cienfueguera= from Cienfuegos

No doubt this is Cuba, (as ever the signal in fading in key moments....)

I think Taino was on 93.3 when we passed by Cuba in early February. I sent an email from the ship to the list, but I can't find it. I know they had RDS.

Here's a few clips from my end.

I'm not sure how accurate this data is but I've got record of Radio Taino 92.9 in Unión de Reyes, Cuba - CMDR 500 watts

Here is information to clarify 'who' the 92.9 'Radio Taíno' relay is.

I wrote to Pedro M. Pérez, Director General of Radio Taíno, inquiring about the relay on 92.9. Much to my surprise, he replied rather quickly and provided me plenty of information. You may want to post this information if you are within 'skip range' of Cuba.

Sr. Pérez said that the 92.9 is a 'pirate' relay, estimated to be broadcasting with 1kw and in the Pinar del Rio region. Since they are only relaying another radio station's signal and are not causing interference currently with any other stations, the ICRT (enforcement) is not in a hurry to shut them down. CMDR Unión de Reyes used to be on 92.9 and was a relay, but they have since moved to 106.3 and are a Radio Rebelde relay.

Here is the complete information he provided to me:

93.3 CLH Cd. de La Habana, CMBV 10kw 'Radio Taíno' primary signal

Relays
88.7 VIL Santa Clara, CMEW 1kw "Radio Stéreo Centro"
89.1 HOL Holguín, CMKE 1kw "Radio Holguín"
89.5 SAN Santiago de Cuba, CMJM 1kw "Radio Mambí"
90.1 SSA Trinidad, CMGA 1kw "Radio Trinidad"
98.1 MAT Varaderos, CMDV 1kw "Radio Varadero"
107.9 CIE Cumanayagüa CMFK 1kw "Radio Cumanayagüa"
107.9 CVA Ciro Redondo, CMIR 1kw "Radio Ciro Redondo"
107.9 SSA Sancti Spíritus, CMGC 1kw "Radio Vitral"

He also noted that if any members of our organization should detect a signal that identifies itself as Radio Taíno and it is not on one of the above frequencies, it should be noted as being a pirate.

The above information is listed and accurate in the "Emisoras de FM" Deluxe edition :-)

What is interesting is that this starts out sounding like a religious station (the music had a church sing-a-long "feel" to it), and this first thing said is "Her name is Maria (Mary)".
I think the art being described is "arte Cubano y universal" (Cuban and international art), which definitely points to Cuba (much as a USA station would advertise "The best Jazz from America and the world")

Incidentally, I am beginning to see the influence of religious music in Cuban radio on other stations. the ID on R. Rebelde at 1300 EDT (1700 Z), which BOOMS in Detroit on 15.370, has organ music that sounds just like one woud expect the opening to a sermonette program to sound like.
