Here is a radar (doppler) of the WNY area tonight. Note the system is in "Clear Air" mode. We have very strong condition to Toronto right now. This is seen on the radar image as red/orange areas from WNY over the lake toToronto. When it forms a large red "Z" that follows the shore from Erie, to Buffalo, and then north and east to Toronto I know we'll be getting good FRS radio contacts into downtown Toronto and there is a strong chance of tropo on VUF tv as well.
If you want, post your doppler radar image when the tropo is up. Perhaps we'll be able to "see" a pattern here.

Here is the image from tonight. Toronto FRS is again in strong, as was WPSU ch.3 from Clearfield, PA. Ch.3 is getting weaker as TO is getting stronger.
Please check your local dopper image when the tropo is up and post it on this thread. I want to see how the image relates to the tropo.
CIUT 89.5 in very strong as well. Techno pop tonight.

Toronto FRS in full scale! But no fancy radar image as it is raining out. Just a normal one.
Oh well.

Tropo to the south of me. You can see how the Southern Tier valleys are filled with fog on this radar image.
It would be real cool to see some from other areas of the country, but I' not getting any response.
Oh well, I'll keep posting and maybe someone will kick in, I hope.

A large red "C" pattern. Strangely, no enhancement noted in any particular direction.

Intense red indication of inversion! I have to check it out on the FRS and TV and see what's up. Looks real good from up here, though. . . . However, a quick check indicates nothing real good on TV or FRS, but Rich did say he' been seeing Ohio in and out all afternoon. Image below

Very much red to the south and east. Syracuse and Erie UHF stations in pretty good, and Rochester LPTV translators.
Making dish repairs has also helped.

See the blue spike to the southeast? It's there (a reflection) in that same direction in most of the Buffalo images, to some degree or another. Is this a blockage near the transmitter, or the reflection from a ridge or valley? Anybody have experience with radar images?

Somehow I missed this thread... Great thread Guy! I also use radar, especially in clear air mode to detect when theres trop out there. You gave some great examples there.

This gets a sticky...

Thanks. What I'd really love to see is the radar shots when others are reporting tropo is up. Right now, I've been trying to see for myself as the reports are posted; I'll click on the nearest radar to the reporting location. But often, I don't read the list right away or I'm at work when the tropo happened, etc.
What's a sticky?

I have a few saved, Ill have to see if I can dig some up...

A sticky is just a "tag" a thread gets when somebody posts an exceptionally important/interesting thread. For the duration it's a "sticky" that thread can't be bumped off the top of the forum. Even when somebody posts a newer topic.
